Dental Crowns

At Copperstone Dental we help families restore their dental health with our many dental services, including Dental Crowns. A dental crown can be made from a variety of materials, including ceramics, porcelain, and composite resin to create a tooth-shaped dental cap. This protects the newly restored tooth from further damage, while maintaining the color of natural teeth.

When a Dental Crown is needed?

When a tooth has become badly decayed, cracked, or worn down, your dentist may suggest a dental crown as a way to salvage the remaining parts of the tooth. This is done as an alternative to a root canal as it requires gentle scraping of decay buildup on the surface of the tooth rather than in the root. This is a much safer method to restore the health and beauty of the tooth as it creates a protective barrier, preventing further damage. Similar to a natural tooth, this crown allows you to eat, drink, and speak as you would with your natural teeth.

Benefits of a Dental Crown

A dental crown offers many benefits, including:

  • Restoring damaged or decayed teeth
  • Provides a protection for worn or weak teeth
  • Helps hold a dental bridge into place
  • Disguises tooth discoloration
  • Restores ability to eat meals without pain or difficulty

Similar to natural teeth, dental caps require daily maintenance, such as brushing and flossing, as plaque and buildup can occur. After receiving a dental crown, be sure to brush twice and day and floss at least once a day to prevent buildup.

Dental Crown Procedure

Dr. Matthew Tuft will first prepare the damaged tooth by cleaning in and around the tooth to ensure a proper installation. He will shave down the top part of the tooth to make room for the crown. Once the tooth has been properly shaped, he will make dental impression of the tooth to have your customized crown made. Once your crown is available, your dentist will schedule your second dentist appointment to have your crown placed. He will test your bite and check for any inconsistencies. Once he has determined the correct fit, the crown will be cemented into place to become a permanent tooth. Same-day crowns available.
